2155. Flemish bobbin lace flounce

  • Type: Flemish
  • Purpose: flounce
  • Date: 1680-1680
  • Colour: natural
  • Width: 20cms
  • Length: 296cms
  • Notes: The pattern repeat is at 65cms. Whilst the overall pattern is the same, some of the fillings and tension are different indicating different workers. This is also borne out by the ways that the bundles of threads have been taken over the back of the piece. It has been repaired in various places BUT see the non labelled end…one repair in the ground appears to have been done in Filet techniques. The bottom edge is integral but the top edge is additional and a later tape lace. See Antique Lace- Identifying Types and Techniques By Heather Toomer  Page 135 Plate 148. For Fashion see Elissa Ricci Page 158 no 217.
